Title: "FIRE and other EU initiatives".

Abstract
The internet has become a critical infrastructure both from a social and economic perspective. The limits of the Internet constitute an important concern for its future growth and economic competitiveness. The future needs go beyond the capabilities of NGN architectures. The European Commission has therefore decided that it is high time to intensify research in the domain of Future Internet. The first challenge in the 7th Framework Programme is devoted to the following areas:
  • Network of the future,
  • Internet of services,
  • Software and visualisation,
  • Internet of things,
  • Networked media,
  • Trustworthy ICT and
  • Future Internet research and experimentation (FIRE)
In my presentation I will inform about this development and projects, which have already been selected.
